TextMap — Our Transcript Summary Tool

Our transcript summary tool seamlessly integrates with CaseMap, our case analysis application, but we think it's one of the best transcript tools on the market--even if you don't use CaseMap!

Use TextMap to create a database of electronic transcript files from depositions, examinations, and other proceedings. As transcripts are imported into TextMap, they are indexed and the location of each word in each transcript is stored. You can later search the index to instantly find all locations where a word or phrase appears.

When transcript passages of interest are found using TextMap’s searching features or by reading a transcript in its entirety, they can easily be sent to a CaseMap or annotations can be stored in TextMap. For each transcript passage sent to CaseMap, TextMap automatically creates a source that references the transcript and the page and line numbers of the selection. As you work in CaseMap’s fact spreadsheet, clicking the paperclip icon to the left of any fact sent from TextMap opens the associated transcript in TextMap to the original sending passage.

TextMap offers a number of important reporting and searching options. Reports can be printed or PDFed using TextMap’s built-in PDF capability that doesn’t require a full Acrobat license. Transcripts can be output from TextMap as either full-sized or as condensed, where four transcript pages appear on a single output page. You can print or PDF Search Reports that list all instances of a word or phrase in context. You can also print or PDF Highlight Reports that lists the highlighted portions of a transcript along with the associated fact information from CaseMap. With TextMap 6 there are too many reports to mention here. The searching capability of TextMap 6 is robust and powerful. It now supports full Boolean and Proximity searching among other search formats.

TextMap installs locally on your computer and is licensed to the individual user. However, TextMap databases are multi-user. Any number of licensed TextMap users can work simultaneously in a TextMap case file. TextMap includes Replication & Synchronization features that allow you to work in a TextMap transcript database as you travel. With TextMap 6 there a SQL option as well for firms that need to share data among different offices.

TextMap Exhibit Linker

The LexisNexis TextMap® Exhibit Linker is a free add on to TextMap that simplifies the process of adding hyperlinked exhibit files to an ASCII text file of a deposition or other transcript. Every exhibit reference in the transcript instantly becomes a hyperlink that will open the scanned exhibit. Save the file to a TextMap Evidence Format (XMEF) file once all the exhibits are linked. The file then becomes a TextMap Evidence Package, containing the text, copies of the exhibits, and hyperlinks throughout the transcript where there are references to the exhibits.

A TextMap user can then import the XMEF file to TextMap -- all the exhibits and hyperlinks for the transcript will be available instantly. Transcript reviewers can open relevant exhibits with just a mouse click as they review testimony!
