What’s New in LexisNexis® CaseMap® 7.5?
Many of the new features in CaseMap® 7.5 enhance already
exceptional reporting capabilities. Others build on core CaseMap
capabilities such as linking and the ability to cull information from
source material in other applications.

CaseMap 7.5.
New Reporting Features
CaseMap 7.5 includes a number of new features that make it even easier
to create a wide array of practical and polished work product.
A new Reports Menu consolidates new and preexisting work product output
options, making the reports easily accessible. The Reports Menu enables
quick navigation to any spreadsheet you want to turn into a report.
Every report is available with a mouse click from the menu.
Reports Menu options include:
-
Page Setup option
-
Print options
-
TimeMap® timeline graphics
(for Facts and Documents)
-
NoteMap® outlines (on any
spreadsheet)*
-
Send a spreadsheet report
to Microsoft® Word, your Web browser (HTML) or WordPerfect® in your
choice of spreadsheet view or vertical format, or create a By-Issue
report easily. Export any CaseMap spreadsheet easily to Excel®
-
Launch the Summary
Judgment Report Wizard
*Producing TimeMap and NoteMap
work product requires that you have a subscription to use the programs
and that you have them installed on your computer.
Title page graphics can be added to all report and ReportBooks cover
sheets.
You can add your organization logo or other graphics on a report cover
sheet and the ReportBook title pages. Access the Edit Graphics dialog
through Page Setup on the Reports menu and give your cover sheets an
image-enhancing boost.
By Issue Reports can now be included in ReportBooks
A By Issue report takes all the visible records in any spreadsheet
and lays them out in a comprehensive report that shows the records
organized according to the issues from the Issues spreadsheet to which
they’re linked. Click
here to see an example of a Facts-By-Issue report.
You can add your own custom By-Issue reports to any ReportBook. The new
case default template also includes a pre-built ReportBook template of
By-Issue reports. Click
here to see an example of the Mark Me Up
ReportBook with a Key Facts-By-Issue report added.
By Issue reports are also
available by accessing the new Reports Menu from a spreadsheet. You can
still see all the Facts linked to an individual issue by using the LS:
Linked Fact Text column on the Issues spreadsheet.
Dozens of new reports are
quickly available using the new CaseMap 7.5 Link Summary (LS) fields.
New Linking Features
CaseMap 7.5 has been renovated to substantially enhance the linking
of the data you add to each case file. This change improves the
performance of the CaseMap searches and, far more importantly,
automatically links critical case information in ways not previously
possible.
The hallmarks of CaseMap linking capabilities are the unique Link
Summary (LS) fields that count the relationships between different types
of case information and make it easy to display reports based on these
counts. The revamped linking that underpins CaseMap 7.5 allows us to add
over twenty additional Link Summary fields to each CaseMap file and also
paves the way for more LS fields in future versions.
LS: Docs Authored and LS:
Docs Received on the Persons spreadsheet are critically important
examples of the new linking architecture.
-
LS: Docs Authored
automatically displays a count of the number of times each case
player is listed as the author of a document.
-
If you want to review the
documents authored by any player, click the count that appears in
the LS: Docs Authored column next to his or her name and a pop-up
window displaying these documents appears.
-
Click print and a report
generates based on these documents.
Two more of the new Link Summary fields—LS: Emails Authored and
Emails Received—display a count of only emails and not of any other
documents.
When you convert your existing
CaseMap files to CaseMap 7.5, the new LS fields will automatically build
themselves and show the counts of associated links. For example, if
you’ve already been listing the authors and recipients of documents by
using the CaseMap short name method (expedites entry and yields data
consistency) the new LS: Docs Authored and LS: Docs Received fields for
Persons will automatically show current counts.
Other New Features
Send-To-CaseMap Enhancements
Bulk Send-to-CaseMap—This feature (BSTCM) makes importing document
records a simple task.
-
Select or filter to a set
of records in your document management system or LexisNexis® online
application.
-
Right-click and launch the
Bulk Send-to-CaseMap wizard.
-
It guides you through
selecting fields from the document database and mapping them to
CaseMap document spreadsheet fields.
NOTE: Bulk Send
requires development work by our integration partners. Click
here to see
a list of litigation support tools that are BSTCM-enabled.
LexisNexis CaseMap 7.5 adds
several ease-of-use improvements in the Send-To-CaseMap (STCM) dialogs.
The STCM feature makes it easy to extract passages from documents and
send them over to the Facts spreadsheet as facts. This feature works in
a vast number of litigation support tools (like Acrobat®, LexisNexis®
Concordance® and LexisNexis TextMap®). The new fact record links back
from CaseMap to the passage in the document, putting critical document
references a mouse click away.
Live Spell Checking—We
introduced live spell checking (the “red-squiggly-line” behavior we know
from our word processor) in CaseMap 5. CaseMap 7.5 checks spelling
continuously in description fields (like Fact Text) in the dialog boxes
of STCM. With live spell check you also get auto-correct.
Adding Objects on the Fly—Frequently
when entering data you come across people, places, and things like
documents that haven’t been set up as Objects in CaseMap. When this
happens, it’s easy to add them by:
-
Right-click an empty spot in the cell where you’re
working.
-
Choose “Add Object” from the shortcut menu and the Add
Object dialog appears.
-
Enter the Type and Full Name of your new object.
-
Click OK and your new Object becomes part of your cast of
characters in CaseMap.
This eliminates flipping back
to the appropriate spreadsheet to add the object and boosts productivity
while keeping your train of thought on track. CaseMap 7.5 brings this
timesaver into the STCM dialogs for the first time.
All the enhancements for STCM
appear in both the Edit Object and Add New Fact dialogs. There is no
need to change or upgrade other lit. support tools you use to send facts
to CaseMap. These new features are added into CaseMap 7.5 so they’ll
automatically be available no matter what STCM-enabled program you’re
using to view your documents.
Import Issues From NoteMap
In CaseMap 7.5 you can import an Issue Outline authored in NoteMap
directly into the Issues Spreadsheet. Outline the issues in your new
case using the practical NoteMap outline features, select the title node
of your outline and copy it to the clipboard. Then, with a couple of a
mouse clicks on the File menu in the Issues spreadsheet, you'll import
NoteMap issues into your CaseMap case. Use this feature to jump-start
your Issues spreadsheet. Or, add a new issue to the case Issue Outline
that you want to develop in-depth using NoteMap.
More New Features
Case Auto-logon—For a new CaseMap case that you're the only one
working on you don’t set a password. If you are a sole user in that
case, CaseMap 7.5 will ask you if you want to take advantage of the Case
Auto-logon. When you activate this feature you won’t go through the Case
Logon dialog each time you access the case file.
Still More ...
Many CaseMap 7.5 changes aren’t readily apparent to users as we
continuously strive to improve CaseMap performance.
